Weekly Blog: 11th October 2019
This week the children have continued to be busy little bees. Activities have included:

  • learning about the holy day of Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. It focuses on righting wrongs and seeking forgiveness so we talked to the children about the importance of being kind to each other and how apologising for doing something in error can help someone else feel better
  • playing a sorting and counting game with Mr Tig (a stuffed dog) who encouraged the children to count and sort different coloured objects, practice recognising numbers and having a go at copying them
  • looking at photos of going to the dentist, talking about what happens there and then sorting healthy and unhealthy food to support oral health
  • looking at emotion cards and sorting the expressions into happy, sad or angry categories in order to help the children recognise other peoples expressions
  • learning a new song to help us focus on looking at the person who is talking to you (if you want to have a go at it please sing the following to the tune of wind the bobbin up):
"can you blink at me? can you blink at me?
    blink, blink, blink, blink, blink
can you wink at me? can you wink at me?
    wink, wink, wink, wink, wink
look at the ceiling, look at the floor; look at the window and look at the door
close your eyes tightly, 1,2, 3; open your eyes and look at me!"
  • mark making and making patterns on our sand tray table and play with shapes
  • looking at our felt letters and finding letters in our name, linking them to letters in our phonics books and singing phonic songs
  • lots of listening to stories, singing and music
  • crafting with glue, paint, dabbers, ink from the craft trolley...
...and many more activities! As usual the weekly blog represents a snapshot of what most of the children participate in during the week.
Please speak to your childs key person if you would like to have further information about your child's interests and progress.
A reminder that we have a box of books in the setting (please ask a member of staff if you can't see it) and you are welcome to borrow books from this box to read with your child, return and swop for a new one when you are ready.
Also, please can all forms and payment for the Christmas film event be handed in before the half term break. Thank you.

NOTICE: Chesterton Playgroup is now taking part in a campaign with Community Dental Services. This campaign will enable the pre-school to gain a healthy smiles accreditation. In order to do this we will be sharing information with all of the families about oral health, good tips for brushing teeth and tips for healthy food that will contribute to good health (oral and physical). We will be teaching the children as well on these subjects and this week we have already focused on visiting the dentist and sorting healthy and unhealthy food. Please visit the community dental services website for further information and also the Change For Life website for tips on physical activities to get your child moving .
Our community dentist representative Charlotte Iddon will also be visiting on the 21st of October to complete a lunchbox audit and feedback on how we as a setting can promote healthy food for the children.
