Weekly Blog: 25th September 2020

Chesterton PlaygroupThis week we have begun our focus weeks with our key children and taken part in a lot of activities. We have continued to focus on personal, social and emotional skills and we have also begun to learn about Autumn as we have entered this season this week.

The activities we have participated in have included:
  • lots of listening gaems, the children in particular love listening to environmental sounds CD and matching them to picture cards
  • learning about the four seasons at circle time throughout the week and introducing Autumn. This included looking at pictures of Autumn, talking about the changes in the environment and what festivals there are during Autumn, also how this effects the life cycle of a plant and tree
  • investigating our maths table, looking at numbers and matching them to our wooden numicon
  • investigating 3d objects and building with construction toys such as duplo and kinex *continuing lots of discussions on hygiene and reinforcing good handwashing practice
  • continuing being creative at the art table. We have practiced our cutting skills, painted with bubble wrap, made glittery pictures, made an handprint Autumn tree display and chosen what we would like from our new art station *made and decorated a 3d house out of cardboard *circle times based on recognising emotions (helped with picture cards) and talking about how we can help each other, be kind and also saying "please" and "thank you" to each other
  • mark making and pencil control practice, following lines and shapes on paper *introducing narrative into play when playing with the small world toys such as the trains, cars and dolls house *lots of imaginative play with our new wooden kitchen *playing different versions of lotto and completing different jigsaws
  • naming and recognising colours, sorting and matching them and focusing on our colour of the week - green
  • yoga
  • games focused on learning our phonic sounds
  • joing in nursery rhymes
  • dancing to music

As usual the weekly blog represents a snapshot of what most of the children participate in during the week. Please speak to your child's key person if you would like to have further information about your child's interests and progress. You are welcome to ask your key person for feedback at any time and book a time to have a meeting for feedback on how your child is progressing.

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week. Hoping you all have a lovely weekend.

Best wishes, Julia, Grace, Sharon, Lisa, Hannah, Jackie and Amy
