Weekly Blog: 24th to 28th November 2025
This week we have focused on the story The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities:
  • enjoying investigating a gruffalo sensory tuff tray
  • developing fine motor skills by pegging pegs/spikes onto hedgehogs
  • learning about the life cycle of an oak tree and sticking pictures of the life cycle of an oak tree in order
  • role playing in our coffee shop as we have been talking about warm drinks
  • lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns and much more
  • create leaf rubbing pictures
  • creating repeating patterns with natural objects and guessing the next object in repeating pattern pictures
  • investigating a woodland tuff tray
  • making pictures for our woodland display board
  • painting with pine cones
  • matching shapes and naming them with our shape owls
  • matching numerals to picture dots with a woodland theme
  • lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
  • making binoculars and going on a bird hunt
  • lots of dressing up fun
  • role playing going on a gruffalo hunt
  • playing guessing games and phonological games
  • making up stories with soft toys
  • lots of puzzles and lotto games
  • investigating magnets in leaves and finding letters and numbers
  • sensory activities including textured floor circles that the children can walk on and describe
  • finding our names in different places
  • making owls on toast
  • learning about mindfulness and doing some breathing activities
  • going on a walk to the village church
