Weekly Blog: 20th t0 24th April 2026

This week our focus has been learning about Fairies and Fantasy Creatures.
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities, have been:

Monday - We learnt about planting seeds and created a fairy garden. The children also enjoyed role playing in the fairy garden inside with the dolls. We also enjoyed making magic wands, comparing sizes of wands and designing fairy wings. We also enjoyed looking at fairy letters and learning letter sounds and enjoying lots of mark making.

On Tuesday we designed fairy doors, designed our own fairy and played hunting for numbers in the garden. The children designed fantasy creatures and put them on the display board. We also looked at pictures of magical creatures and measured their length in cubes

On Wednesday we made flower garlands, learnt all about the tooth fairy and how to look after our teeth, learning all about healthy food and the importance of it. We also enjoyed fairy stories.

On Thursday we learnt all about St Georges Day, made English flags and decorated pictures of dragons and knights. Outside we built lots of castle formations out of giant duplo and foam bricks. The children enjoyed lots of water play and playing with bubbles outside as well.

On Friday we made up our own story about fairies and knights and made lots of fun artwork based on this. We enjoyed lots of phonics and mark making and went on another number hunt outside.

Most activities are available throughout the week for all of the children to enjoy

During we week we also enjoyed lots of other activities including:
  • Matching castle lotto
  • Small world castle, knights and fairies tuff tray
  • lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns
  • guessing the objects game
  • fine motor skill activities such as threading and using tweezers
  • having fun in our role play fairy garden
  • lots of matching games
  • learning about different 2d shapes and their properties
  • lotto games and puzzles
  • painting and creating some lovely artwork
  • name writing practice and practice finding and recognising own name
  • lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
  • counting games, songs and rhymes
  • listening to lots of stories
  • matching numerals to quantity
  • lots of fun phonological activities
