Weekly Blog: 20th November 2020
This week the children have had a brilliantly productive week, which has
been full of activities and a lot of maths.
The activities we have participated in have included:
- we followed up last weeks teaching on Diwali by learning about rangoli
patterns and chalking some on the front playground
- having group circle time activities learning about length, distance,
height and also more and less
- lots of games such as lotto
- lots of variations on counting objects and matching them to numerals,
including rolling a dice, counting the spots and jumping on the right
number on our number line
- building enclosures with the foam bricks (same size as a real standard
brick) and using our role play builder tools to get the job done!
- making up more stories
- singing, a lot of singing, especially outside with the musical
instruments
- football and throwing and catching
- spotting letters on our letter traffic cones and finding the letters in
our name
- playing hide and seek with numbered bean bags and trying to find all
the ones numbered to ten in the garden
- practicing writing names on wipe boards and numerals on counting sheets
- running around in the garden and playing the red light/green light
traffic game (in essence, stop and go!)
- phonics one games focused on sound discrimination - guess the
percussion instrument
- having a space themed yoga session
- playing a game where the children have to sit in a circle, close their
eyes and guess who is talking (one at a time!)
- creating a number display board
- a group game where we took an object and described it to a toy monkey
who did not know what it was! This helps with vocabularly
- beginning to practise and sing Christmas songs
- painting and gluing and the usual craft fun
- this week was anti-bullying week. We spoke to the children about being
a good friend and how we can be kind to one another and use gentle hands
- learning about the way families celebrate Diwali
- finding 3d shapes in the garden
- using props to support role play. The children moved the tyres in the
garden by themselves to make a train, luckily we were invited on!
- a group activity learning about repeating patterns
- practicing our balancing skills by walking around with bean bags on our
heads
- throwing bean bags into buckets to help our hand-eye coordination
As usual the weekly blog represents a snapshot of what most of the
children participate in during the week. Please speak to your child's
key person if you would like to have further information about your
child's interests and progress. You are welcome to ask your key person
for feedback at any time and book a time to have a meeting for feedback
on how your child is progressing.
We are looking forward to seeing you all next week. Hoping you all have
a lovely weekend.
Best wishes, Julia, Grace, Sharon, Lisa, Hannah, Jackie and Amy
