Weekly Blog: 8th to 12th September 2025
This week we have focused on communication and language skills, building friendships and having lots of fun games and activities.
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities are:
- the children have had one to one time completing speech and language activities *we have played listening games
- we have used descriptive commentary during play and encouraged new vocabulary, particularly for our youngest children
- we have enjoyed group circle times having stories and singing songs
- we have played positional language games with children to develop their understanding of 'above', 'below', 'behind' etc
- we have used puppets to create stories and characters
- we have played games that involve listening for simple instructions and following them
- the older children have played group games involving describing and matching patters, playing memory games such as 'what's missing?'. They have also been introduced to initial phonics, matched the correct number of conkers to a number and developed fine motor skills for mark making.
- the investigative tuff tray provided opportunities for language and discussion
- we also looked at different textures of objects and described them
- the children have again enjoyed painting and made caterpillars and butterflies for our display board after reading the story the hungry caterpillar by Eric Carle.
- the children have continued to enjoy drawing, making pictures with glue and stickers, stamping with ink and lots of mark making
- role play has been based around the kitchen and dressing up has been enjoyed by the children.
- they have also enjoyed threading, puzzles, construction and music
