Weekly Blog: 9th to 13th February 2026

This week we have focused on understanding the world, our weekly theme has been based on learning all about Asia and Chinese new year.
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities:
  • learning all about where Asia is on the world map, its land and popular food
  • learning all about Chinese new year and how it is celebrated
  • making coin rubbing pictures to put in our red envelopes for good luck
  • making paper lantern
  • making fans
  • making a giant dragon head to toe
  • dragon dancing
  • making model dragons
  • acting out the story of the great race, each animal having a year named after them
  • making firework pictures
  • learning about pancake day and making pancake pictures
  • lots of games based on phonological development
  • phonic games based on the letters s,a,t,p,i,n
  • lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns
  • guessing the sounds game
  • fine motor skill activities such as tap-a-shape
  • having fun in our role play area based on a Chinese restaurant
  • building train tracks
  • lots of fine motor activities such as threading and using pegs
  • lots of matching games learning about different 2d shapes and their properties
  • lotto games and puzzles
  • painting and creating some lovely artwork
  • name writing practice and practice finding and recognising own name
  • lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
  • counting games, songs and rhymes
  • playing games with balls outside
  • playing on bikes, cars and scooters outside
  • listening to lots of stories
