Weekly Blog: 16th to 20th March

This week we learnt all about healthy living and healthy food. Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities have been:

On Monday we learnt all about what foods are healthy and which ones were unhealthy, treats to have once in a while. We sorted pictures of food and enjoyed imaginative cooking in our role play cafe. We matched numeral to quantity in our pictures of picnics. We also played stop and listen games to encourage listening for sounds. For snack we enjoyed rainbow wraps, a small wrap with a choice of hummus, yellow pepper, tomatoes and cucumber to go inside.

On Tuesday we celebrated and learnt all about St Patricks day. We learnt about where Ireland is, why St Patricks day is celebrated and the story behind it. We counted objects related to the day and enjoyed tasting green fruit and vegetables. We enjoyed phonological games and fun ball games outside in the garden.

On Wednesday we reinforced our learning of healthy food, we enjoyed being active with dancing and active games outside. We looked at pictures to create our own healthy menu and made fruit pictures. For snack the children enjoyed a variety of fruit.

On Thursday we focused in fitness and being active, we moved in lots of different ways using movement cards, we enjoyed an obstacle course and talked about why we exercise and how it makes us feel. For snack the children enjoyed making fruit kebabs.

On Friday we talked about where fruit and vegetables grow and where they are grown in the world and how they get to us in the shop. We played a healthy living board game as a group and enjoyed pirate yoga and lots of active games. For snack the children enjoyed fruit pizza, using a triangular watermelon slice as a base.

During we week we also enjoyed lots of other activities including:
  • lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns
  • guessing the objects game
  • fine motor skill activities such as threading and using tweezers
  • having fun in our role play cafe
  • lots of matching games
  • learning about different 2d shapes and their properties
  • lotto games and puzzles
  • painting and creating some lovely artwork
  • name writing practice and practice finding and recognising own name
  • lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
  • counting games, songs and rhymes
  • listening to lots of stories
  • matching numerals to quantity
  • lots of fun phonological activities
