Weekly Blog: 9th to 13th March

This week we have participated in Science week!
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities have been:

On Monday we learnt all about science week, what scientists do and enjoying imaginative role play in our science potions lab. We played scientific guessing games, memory games and sorted objects into things that float and things that sink, wondering why different objects floated or sunk and learning why. We also played a rocket phonics game.

On Tuesday we learnt all about how we can make things go faster, the children made ramps in the garden for cars and investigated other ways of making things go faster. We made a balloon rocket and also learnt about static electricity by making our hair stand up with a balloon. We drew shadow pictures outside and sorted items by weight. Another experiment was how to get a tangerine out of a jug of water without spilling it, which we learnt you can do if you swirled the water around with your finger to create a vortex as it made it float to the top of the jug.

On Wednesday we learnt all about light and volcanos. We looked at colour mixing with the light box, we made shadow puppets with light as well. We learnt all about volcanos and had fun watching a coca cola bottle spurt out a fountain when putting mentos mints in it. We made volcano models and learnt about what lava was made out of. We also had a group time looking at clocks and learning about o'clock and how to make that on our clocks, we also made clock pictures.

On Thursday we learnt all about magnets, sorting magnetic and non magnetic objects. We used magnifying glasses to look at minibeast pictures. We built models with magnetic tiles and we made a magnetic boat. We went on a magnetic hunt and looked at magnetic letters.
On Friday we learnt all about the different seasons and different weather. We also learnt about how plants grow and made model blossom trees. Most activities have been available throughout the week so all children can revisit activities and consolidate their learning.
