Weekly Blog: 11th to 15th May 2026
This week our focus has been on dragons and unicorns.
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities, have been:
- making dragons out of 2d shapes on our tuff tray
- counting dragon eggs and matching them to numeral cards
- a dragon phonics game
- bubble wrap dragon painting
- designing a dragon
- making a unicorn picture from footprints
- counting unicorns
- unicorn phonics
- sorting and cutting dragons into size order
- pencil control activities
- making up stories about dragons using story stones and then acting them out
- making a green fiery dragon picture
- free painting
- building a role play unicorn house and decorating it
Most activities are available throughout the weeks for all of the children to enjoy
During we week we also enjoyed lots of other activities including:
- Building with duplo
- lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns
- guessing the objects game
- fine motor skill activities such as threading and using tweezers
- lots of matching games
- learning about different 2d shapes and their properties
- lotto games and puzzles
- painting and creating some lovely artwork
- name writing practice and practice finding and recognising own name
- lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
- counting games, songs and rhymes
- listening to lots of stories
- matching numerals to quantity
- lots of fun phonological activities
