Weekly Blog: 18th to 22nd May 2026

This week our focus has been on dragons and unicorns.This week our focus has been on Fairy Tales.
Activities we have enjoyed include, alongside other child initiated activities, have been:

On Monday we focused on the story Jack and the Beanstalk, we practised fine motor skills drawing beanstalks, we created a story map of the tale using pictures, we role played the story and also made a giant beanstalk where we measured how tall we were on it. We used our fine motor skills tweezing pom poms onto Jack and the beanstalk pictures. We also did some phonic activities and counting activities. During the day we enjoyed a yoga session and some emotional regulation exercises. To finish off we planted sunflower seeds with the children to take home.

On Tuesday we focused on the story The Gingerbread man. We decorated gingerbread biscuits to take home, role played the story, played team games, enjoyed phonic activities, maths activities and colour by number.

On Wednesday we focused on the story Little Red Riding Hood. We enjoyed apple printing, made paper plate wolf masks, looked at red objects on our sensory tuff tray. We matched numerals and quantities and enjoyed apple printing.

On Thursday we focused on the story Goldilocks and the three bears. We investigated porridge on our tuff tray we different sized bowls and spoons. We made bear pictures, ordered pictures from the story into size order. We completed a story map and made a picture of the story using our cutting skills.

On Friday we focused on the story Three Billy Goats gruff. We enjoyed role played the story using puppets, learned all about goats, made bridges and enjoyed a movement game.

Most activities are available throughout the weeks for all of the children to enjoy.

During we week we also enjoyed lots of other activities including:
  • Building with duplo and wooden blocks
  • lots of mark making in various forms: water painting, wipe board marking, pencils, pens, tracing patterns
  • guessing the objects game
  • fine motor skill activities such as threading and using tweezers
  • lots of matching games
  • learning about different 2d shapes and their properties
  • lotto games and puzzles
  • painting and creating some lovely artwork
  • name writing practice and practice finding and recognising own name
  • lots of listening games, songs and rhymes
  • counting games, songs and rhymes
  • listening to lots of stories
  • matching numerals to quantity
  • lots of fun phonological activities
